Finally, after a really long wait we have our first foal. Ankjen (Callie) foaled out a beautiful filly early monday morning (5/16). We have decided to name her Johanna. We can't wait to see what the other mare's foals will look like. The next one due is Titia, she has less then a month to go!!

Apr 17, 2011 Breeding season in full swing

Spring is in the air; we started flood irrigation the other week. The pastures are getting greener by the minute. The pastures that we seeded early spring are coming up great. The trees are budding and the flowers are blooming, after a long hard winter its nice to see color and life on the farm again. Finally we have started breeding our lights mares. We have 4 waiting for pregnancy checks already. We are all crossing our fingers that they are pregnant. Also its about one month until our first foal is due for 2011, we started bringing her into the barn at night and checking her bag now on a daily basis. We are all very excited to get the first foal on the ground. Our babies from 2010 are not babies any more, they seem to grow like weeds over night. I cant believe that they are yearlings already. Cant wait to see what 2011 has in-store for Maddi's Friesian Ranch!!

Mar 25, 2011 Just when we thought winter was over

Well, the calander says spring is here, but you can't tell it by the weather! We have lots of snow in the mountains, which will make this a great year for irrigating this summer. By next week, spring temperatures are forecasted; it will be great to see our pastures greening up and growing!

Mar 12, 2011 New 57 acre farm

After 2 years of looking for the perfect farm we finally found a beautiful ranch about a quarter of a mile away from our existing ranch. It has 2 very large ponds, a creek and a slough. The view from the new farm is spectacular, it sits a little farther off of the mountains, so you really get to enjoy Jobs Peak a lot more. I wouldn't want to live any where else. So now we just need to fence it all in and start building the brand new 12 stall foaling barn. There is going to be a lot of work for the next year, but it was well worth the wait. Its going to be a great addition to Maddis Friesian Ranch. We are going to call it Maddis Friesian Ranch East!!

Mar 12, 2011 New John Deere RTV arrived

Finally after a long wait we got our new John Deere RTV. We were all very excited; a lot more things around the farm can get done now. Spring is in the air, so we can get started with harrowing and seeding some of the pastures. We moved the yearlings to the newly fenced 10 acres and they are loving having all that room to run, buck, and play. Now with the winter almost over everyone at the ranch cant wait for the first babies to arrive. Callie (Ankjen) one of our first mares that we bought is due May 30!! a couple months away but her baby bump is getting bigger and bigger.

Feb 25, 2011 2011 STALLION KEURING AT DG BAR

Everyone at the ranch went to this years stallion keuring in Visalia. At the start of the 70 day stallion testing there were 5 stallions then there was a evaluation about mid-way through the 70 days. After the evaluation 3 stallions dropped out, so at the stallion keuring this year there were only 2 stallions left. It was a great experience to all the people that went. FHANA did a great job in choosing Dr. willem Back to speak on many subjects about the Friesian Breed. The first day Dr. Back spoke about modern genetical tools and the opportunities for the friesian horse health. The second day of lectures were about functional requirements of the locomotor apparatus of the friesian horse now and in the future. Dr. Back was very informative, knowledgable and willing to answer any question that we had. There also was a day that we could go around and visit the local families and there beautiful ranchs. It was a nice treat to see how everyone had their barns set up. Thank you to all of those families that opened up your homes and ranches so everyone could come and take a farm tour.
